Ka'tarohkwen/Kingston, Ontario
Kingston is a Canadian city on Lake Ontario, at the mouth of the Cataraqui and St. Lawrence rivers. The Kanyen'kéha (Mohawk) name for the region, Ka'tarohkwen, means “Where clay has been taken out of the water”. Related Indigenous names include the Huron-Wendat Katarokwi (the origin of the French Cataraqui) and the Anishinaabemowin Gaadanoskwi. It's also known as the "Limestone City" for its grand 19th-century buildings, including the lakeside Kingston City Hall.
Kingston is located on the land of the Haudenosaunee, the Mississauga Anishinaabe, and the Huron-Wendat, and at the very southern reaches of the territory of the Algonquin.
